Meet Mike Stewart: Composite & Structural Adhesives Expert

Mike Stewart brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in composites and structural adhesives to his role as GracoRoberts’ Composite and Adhesives Subject Matter Expert (SME). His career spans the full evolution of advanced materials in aerospace and industrial applications, from early work selling honeycomb core and composite aircraft interior structures to more than a decade as a nationally focused aerospace adhesives specialist.

What continues to drive innovation after 30 years in the field?

What drives Mike most is innovation. He is energized by the rapid growth of space exploration, advanced air mobility, and next-generation aerospace applications, and he thrives on helping customers adopt new technologies that improve performance, reliability, and total cost efficiency. His passion lies in advancing designs, solving real-world bonding challenges, and supporting engineers as they push the boundaries of what composite materials can do.

What types of bonding technologies and applications have you worked with most?

Mike is widely recognized for his deep expertise in structural bonding technologies, including film and paste adhesives, prepregs, and specialty composite materials used in primary and secondary structures. He has spent 14 years working extensively with leading aerospace and industrial adhesive brands, supporting complex bonding applications ranging from metal-to-metal to metal-to-composite assemblies. His experience also extends into transportation and marine markets, giving him a broad, cross-industry perspective on material performance and process requirements.

How do you approach complex bonding challenges on the shop floor?

Throughout his career, Mike has worked in technical engineering sales and problem-solving roles, partnering directly with engineers on the shop floor to evaluate material behavior, processibility, adhesive flow, dispensing options, and performance requirements. Rather than simply recommending products, he is known for asking the right questions to uncover the real challenge. Whether it’s a process issue, performance limitation, availability concern, or cost constraint, he guides teams toward the most effective solution.

What does your role at GracoRoberts look like today?

In his current role, Mike serves as a technical resource for GracoRoberts’ customers and technical sales team, helping build confidence in composites discussions and enabling smarter material selection conversations.
