Composite Fibers and Fabrics for Aerospace and Industrial Manufacturing

GracoRoberts supplies composite reinforcement fibers and fabrics for aerospace, defence, UAV, marine, and industrial composite manufacturing. Dry fabric reinforcements are used in wet layup, resin infusion, and resin transfer moulding processes where prepreg is not required or where the flexibility of a dry fabric format offers production advantages.

Our portfolio includes woven fibreglass cloths, carbon fibre fabrics, and specialty reinforcement textiles from leading manufacturers including Hexcel. Products are available in a range of weave styles, areal weights, and widths to suit structural, secondary, and specialty composite applications.

For prepreg reinforcement systems, see our prepregs page. For compatible resin systems for wet layup and infusion, see our resin systems page.

Types of Composite Fibers and Fabrics

Woven Fibreglass Cloths (GFRP)

Carbon Fibre Fabrics (CFRP)

Plain weave, satin weave, and specialty fibreglass cloths for radomes, interiors, tooling, and secondary structural panels. Fibreglass fabrics offer electrical transparency, corrosion resistance, and cost efficiency in applications where carbon fibre performance is not required. Products include HexForce 7781, 7500, 1581, 120, and 112 styles in Volan and F16 finishes.

Woven carbon fibre fabrics for structural composite applications requiring high stiffness and strength at low weight. Available in a range of weave styles including plain weave and satin weave. Used in wet layup and infusion processes for airframes, fairings, and structural panels.

Aramid and Hybrid Fabrics

Specialty Technical Textiles

Aramid and hybrid reinforcement fabrics for applications requiring impact resistance, vibration damping, and ballistic protection. Used in nacelle panels, interior components, and armour applications where energy absorption is a key performance requirement.

Silicone-coated fiberglass fabrics and specialty composite textiles for high-temperature tooling, release, and protective applications. Products include Saint-Gobain SCF1032 silicone rubber coated fibreglass for tooling and bagging applications.

Applications and Measurable Benefits

Radomes and Antenna Structures

Interiors and Secondary Panels

Fibreglass fabrics provide the electrical transparency required for radome and antenna housing construction, with corrosion resistance and structural performance suited to airborne and ground-based installations.

Woven fibreglass cloths are used in interior panels, fairings, and secondary composite structures where weight savings, surface finish, and fire performance are primary requirements alongside structural integrity.

Marine Hulls and Structural Components

Tooling and Mould Construction

Fibreglass fabrics resist moisture and corrosion in marine composite construction, supporting hull, deck, and structural component manufacture in coastal and offshore environments.

Woven fibreglass cloths and specialty coated fabrics are used in composite tool fabrication, providing a stable, dimensionally consistent base for mould surfaces used in repeated production cycles.

Manufacturing Methods and Material Readiness

Dry fabrics are compatible with hand layup, wet layup, resin infusion, resin transfer moulding, and filament winding processes. Fabric selection depends on weave architecture, areal weight, finish type, and compatibility with the intended resin system and cure process.

We offer kitting and converting services for fabrics, supplying rolls in slit widths or pre-cut formats to reduce handling and waste on the production floor. See our short roll composites service for more information.

Certification, Documentation, and Traceability

We support qualification workflows for composite fibers and fabrics, including lot traceability, shelf life management, and certificates on request. Our team can advise on weave style, areal weight, and finish selection to align with programme and process requirements.

What we provide:

  • Certificates, COA and COC, on request
  • Lot traceability and shelf life management
  • Data sheets, storage and handling guidance
  • Approved sourcing aligned to programme specs

Fibers and Fabrics FAQs

What fiberglass fabrics do you stock for aerospace composites?

We supply HexForce woven fibreglass cloths from Hexcel, including styles 7781, 7500, 1581, 120, and 112 in Volan and F16 finishes. These are used in radomes, interiors, tooling, and secondary structural panels across commercial and defence programmes.

What is the difference between Volan and F16 finish on fibreglass cloth?

Volan is a chrome complex finish that provides good adhesion to epoxy resin systems and has a long history of use in aerospace composites. F16 is a silane-based finish optimized for compatibility with epoxy resin systems and provides improved translucency. The correct finish depends on your resin system and surface finish requirements.

Can you supply fabrics in slit widths or short roll formats?

Yes. Our kitting and converting service can supply fabrics in slit widths, pre-cut lengths, or short rolls.

Do you provide certifications and lot traceability for composite fabrics?

Yes. We offer certificates on request, COA and COC, lot traceability, and shelf life management to support qualification and programme compliance.

Which fabric reinforcement is best for radome construction?

Woven fibreglass fabrics such as HexForce 7781 or similar styles are well suited to radome construction due to their electrical transparency and corrosion resistance. Style and areal weight selection depends on structural requirements and the resin system being used. Contact us for a recommendation.
